Comedy Night 

The Scallywags Comedy club are hosting a comedy night to welcome you to our fantastic university and Students’ Union! With socially distanced seating, and top-notch jokes, the event promises to be fantastic!

You definitely won’t want to miss our comedy night this Welcome Week! Due to safety concerns, the venue hosting or comedy night has a restricted capacity. Your safety is a top priority to us. However, we don’t want anyone to miss out on the fun, so we will be streaming the event to those who are unable get a ticket. We hope this will bring smiles all round!

Masked Singer

Join us for Welcome Week’s Karaoke session as our very own masked singer (to keep in line with Covid-19 safety practices). Showcase your talent to other students, or simply have a laugh with some of your flatmates – the choice is yours!

Fancy yourself as a singer? Whether you do or just enjoy a bit of Karaoke, be sure to head down to Pittville bar for some Friday night fun! Dress code: Masks and gloves for those that are singing. We want everyone to sing responsibly and safely, but wearing masks and gloves means you’ll be performing in style too! 

If singing isn’t up your street, you will still be able to enjoy a beer and a chilled-out chat with your new friends at Pittville Bar.

Bingo

Get your bingo daubers at the ready for The SU’s Bingo Night! Come down to Oxstalls Bar to try your luck and see if you can win one of our exciting prizes! We’ve got a selection of food and stationery just waiting to be won…

Oxstalls bar are hosting a bingo night for you all this Welcome Week. Prizes include a food hamper and a variety of stationery. What more could a first-year student want? There may be a few surprise prizes thrown in for good measure. 

The night is a sure way to have a laugh and help you settle into the fun and exciting atmosphere of university living. You better brush up on your bingo skills!

The Big Scavenger Hunt

With some new friends by your side and a map in your hand, explore Cheltenham and Gloucester through The Big Scavenger Hunt! Find hidden QR clues on your journey to be directed towards our fabulous prizes!

Mission: Find the QR code clues to help find our fantastic prizes. Get to know the lovely Cheltenham and gorgeous Gloucester while you explore your new home with your friends! There is no better way to get to know our city than with a scavenger hunt! 

The SU’s Big Scavenger Hunt will also give you the chance you achieve some of the BIG ten on your t-shirts. There’s nothing to lose! Sign up now!

Pittville PicNic

We’re going on a PicNic! Join us in Pittville Park for a very special afternoon. The Chaplaincy team will provide you with a tasty lunch to enjoy while sitting down, making friends and soaking up the lovely views Pittville Park has to offer. 

Pittville park is the city’s largest ornamental park. It is home to several playgrounds, a boating lake and an aviary – it is the perfect location for a bite to eat! The afternoon will be a great way to make friends and take a break from the excitement of Welcome Week. It’s also the perfect way to settle back in to socialising after lockdown. 

Some of our officers will be there at the picnic to say hello to you all. This will be a great chance to ask them any questions you have surrounding studying at the University of Gloucestershire or The SU.

PicNic at the Cathedral

There’s no greater way to soak up all Gloucester has to offer like a PicNic! Sit down by the Cathedral and enjoy some tasty food in the sun. We’ll provide the snack boxes; all you have to bring is yourself. 

Tuck into a scrumptious snack box kindly provided by our Chaplaincy team. You’ll be able to find a socially distanced spot to sit down and enjoy your food. 

Gloucester Cathedral sits north of the city near the River Severn – it is the ideal place to sit and have some lunch.

Our officers will be around for a chat or for you to ask any questions you may have about university or their roles within The SU. 

Alfresco Cinema Screening

Moving to a new city can be stressful, and outdoor cinema is the perfect way to help you unwind this Welcome Week. So, sit back and enjoy the views of Park Campus and its lake… not forgetting the film of course!

The Alfresco Film Company are kindly hosting a fabulous evening on Park Campus for us all. Get your popcorn at the ready, pop on your headset and sit tight. We’ll spend the evening enjoying the lovely Gloucester weather and watching a film alfresco style! Tickets will sell quickly, so buy now to ensure you reserve a seat in our outdoor cinema. 

Welcome Fayre

Come along to our Welcome Fayre to see what The SU have to offer you! Lots of students representing our fabulous societies and clubs will be there to meet you. There will also be a few stalls offering freebees – this is not one to miss!

Come on down to Park Campus to explore our Welcome Fayre with your newfound friends. As a member of The SU it’s really important that we showcase exactly what we have to offer you here at the University of Gloucestershire. 

We have such an amazing variety of clubs and societies for you all to join. What better way to introduce them to you than at our Welcome Fayre? Registering your interest for extra curriculars and signing up to get involved is one of the best ways to make lasting friendships at university. 

Listen to all our lovely committee members talk about their societies. Hear from our passionate club captains and members about all the fun they’ve had and all the skills they’ve gained from getting involved. There’s no greater way to learn about extracurricular activities! We’ll all be waiting to meet you and have a chat about how wonderful The SUand the University of Gloucestershire is.

There will also be a variety of stalls from local business, who want to make you feel as welcome as possible now you have moved to Gloucestershire! 

Songs and Sunset

What better way is there to appreciate your new home than watching the sun set while listening to acoustic music? You’re right, there is no better way. Join us at Park Campus for a relaxed evening to enjoy some music and have a drink! 

After lockdown, we recognise that within the past few months it’s been unsafe to socialise safely. Our Songs and Sunset evening is the perfect way to settle in university life whilst also remaining safe and socially distanced. We have a fantastic line up of solo artists, as well as duos to help you to unwind. Watching the sun set by our Park Campus Lake will be such a fantastic memory to look back on when you think of Welcome Week! We promise it will be a brilliant evening.

Officer Introduction

Every afternoon one of our fantastic officers wants to welcome you as a student at the University of Gloucestershire, but also as a member of The SU. Come and say hello!

Tune into our online Officer Introduction episodes to see our officer team! Watch as they welcome you to our fantastic university and Students’ Union. Each officer will explain what exactly their role within The SU entails. This is a brilliant way to get to know each officer and learn about the work The SU does to help the student community at the University of Gloucestershire.
